The Staff Selection Commission will hold an Open Competitive Computer Based Examination for direct recruitment to the posts of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non- Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) in various Ministries/Departments/Organizations including their Attached offices, Subordinate offices and Statutory bodies of the Government of India located in various States and Union Territories. Only those candidates who have skills in stenography are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the SSC Stenographer 2025 exam, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

1. Nationality

Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of India, or

  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or

  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries (e.g., Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, etc.) with the intent to settle permanently in India, provided they have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

2. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12th or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or university by August 1, 2025.

  • No prior experience or typing certificate is required, but candidates must demonstrate stenography skills during the skill test.

3. Age Limit (as on August 1, 2025)

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years (born between August 2, 1995, and August 1, 2007).

  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years (born between August 2, 1998, and August 1, 2007).

  • Age Relaxation:

    • SC/ST: 5 years

    • OBC: 3 years

    • PwD: Up to 15 years (depending on category)

    • Other categories: As per government norms.

Application Process

  2. Log in using your One-Time Registration (OTR) credentials or register if you’re a new user.

  3. Click on the ‘Apply’ button under “Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Examination 2025” in the ‘Live Exam’ tab.

  4. Fill in the application form with personal, educational, and post-preference details.

  5. Upload a recent photograph (JPEG/JPG, specified dimensions) and a signature (10-20 KB, JPEG/JPG).

  6. Pay the application fee:

    • General/OBC: INR 100

    • SC/ST/PwD/Women: Exempted

    • Payment modes: Online (net banking, credit/debit card) or offline (e-challan)

  7. Preview and submit the form. Save a copy for future reference.

Salary and Job Profile

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’:

    • Pay Scale: INR 9,300–34,800 (Level 6, 7th Pay Commission)

    • In-Hand Salary: Approx. INR 51,000 per month

    • Job Profile: Transcribing speeches, drafting briefs, managing records, and assisting in public relations for senior officials.

  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’:

    • Pay Scale: INR 5,200–20,200 (Level 4, 7th Pay Commission)

    • In-Hand Salary: Approx. INR 36,000 per month

    • Job Profile: Taking dictations, typing, maintaining files, and supporting administrative tasks.

  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other benefits as per government norms.
